That "after trial, auto-renews at $7.49/month" clause is the entire reason this page exists. The trial does not lapse quietly — it becomes a paid membership on its own.

Why waiting is usually right

Canceling in month one and canceling in month six have identical financial outcomes — you pay nothing either way — and wildly different value outcomes. Month one gives you four weeks of membership. Month six gives you 6 months.

And the trial is one-time. Canceling early does not bank the remaining months for later:

So an early cancellation throws away months you have already secured, in exchange for nothing. The only reason to do it is if you are certain you will forget — and a calendar reminder solves that more cheaply.

The reminder that makes this a non-issue

1. Note the date you started. 6 months from then is the conversion date.
2. Set a calendar reminder a week before it. One entry, thirty seconds.
3. When it fires, decide. Continue at $7.49 a month, switch to annual at $69, or cancel. All three are fine; drifting into the first by accident is not.

How to actually do it

What we cannot tell you is whether benefits stop the moment you cancel or run to the end of the trial period. Amazon does not publish a single rule for that on the pages we track, and it is worth reading what your own membership settings say at the moment you cancel.

Before you cancel, one honest question

Did you use it? Not "did you enjoy having it" — did you place orders that used the delivery benefit, watch things on Prime Video, or earn any cash back? Six months is long enough to produce a real answer, which is more than most subscription trials give you.

If it already charged you

Then the trial converted and you are on a paid membership. Canceling now stops the next charge; whether the one already taken is refundable is a separate question. What Amazon says about refunds.
