How this site is funded

What kind of affiliate site this is

There are two common models and the difference matters, so it is worth being specific rather than using the generic wording.

Most affiliate sites earn a percentage of what you spend. They recommend products, you buy one, they take a cut. That model gives the publisher a direct interest in you buying more, and more expensive, things.

This site does not work that way. We earn a flat fee for a qualifying membership signup — one fixed amount, once, if someone joins. We have no financial interest in what you buy afterwards, how much you spend, or whether you buy anything at all.

That is also why there are no product recommendations, no prices, and no buy buttons anywhere on this site. There is nothing here we are trying to sell you except a membership decision, and we would rather you make the right one.

Bounties are paid for new customers

Referral programs of this kind generally pay only for new customers, and there are conditions attached that are Amazon’s to set, not ours.

So we do not imply that every reader will earn us anything, and more importantly we do not imply every reader qualifies for the offer itself. The eligibility page says plainly when you do not qualify and routes you to the alternative rather than pretending otherwise.

What the money does not buy

Nobody pays for coverage here. There are no sponsored placements, no paid reviews, and no arrangement under which a company could pay to be recommended or to have something removed.

Because the fee does not change with our verdict, the incentive that usually distorts this kind of writing is not present. Concretely, that is why this site does things that cost it conversions:

• The auto-renewal disclosure — that the trial renews at $7.49 a month rather than stopping — sits above the fold on the homepage and beside every mention of the trial. None of the twelve competing pages we surveyed mentions it at all.
• The main page has a section on who should skip it.
• We advise shared-household account holders not to switch, because the household ends up paying more.
• We mark discounted add-ons as discounts rather than inclusions, which makes our benefit list look less impressive than the ones around it.

How the links are marked

Every link that could earn us a fee is marked #ad directly beneath it, together with a link back to this page. Those links also carry the technical markers search engines use to identify paid links (“sponsored” and “nofollow”), and open in a new tab.

Links to Amazon’s own help and terms pages — the sources we quote throughout — are not affiliate links and earn us nothing. They are there so you can check our figures. All nine of them are listed here.
