When a student's studies end, Amazon converts their Prime for Young Adults membership to regular Prime at $14.99 a month — unless they are still under 25, in which case the age route may keep them at $7.49. What Amazon does when the studies end
Amazon's published rule depends on which route the student verified under:
If you join Prime for Young Adults through [student] verification: after four years, or the end of your studies, your membership will convert to a normal Prime Membership.
If you join Prime for Young Adults through [age] verification: when you reach 25 years old, your membership will convert to a normal Prime Membership.
And it warns in advance: "We'll notify you by email several weeks before your discounted Prime renewal date if we believe that you're no longer eligible for Prime for Young Adults." So the graduate should expect an email, and should read it, because "convert to a normal Prime Membership" means the price doubles from $7.49 to $14.99 a month. What happens when it ends.
The gift that is a sentence: "you might still qualify"
Most graduates are 21 or 22. The student route has ended, but the age route's condition — "when you reach 25 years old" — has not been reached. That makes the age route worth asking Amazon about rather than accepting the conversion. For graduates over 24: the regular trial, honestly
A graduate who is 25 or older is outside the young-adult program entirely. Amazon runs a 30-day trial of regular Prime, and its help page is careful about who gets it: "If you are not offered a free trial, you can still sign up for Prime on Amazon Prime." A Prime share from your account

Two balances worth mentioning
- The cash-back balance expires. Prime for Young Adults cash back lapses 180 days after it is earned, and Amazon states a member who becomes ineligible stops earning immediately. A graduate with a balance should spend it before the conversion, and it cannot be spent on gift cards, digital content, prime membership fees. The cash-back rules.
- The .edu address may close. Some institutions shut alumni email within months. Anything that verifies through it — Amazon included — should be moved to a personal address first. Changing the verification email.
Neither is a gift you can wrap. Both are the kind of thing a graduate is glad someone mentioned.

Does Prime Student end when you graduate?
If the membership was verified as a student, Amazon converts it to regular Prime "after four years, or the end of your studies". If it was verified by age, it runs "when you reach 25 years old". A graduate under 25 may be able to continue on the age route.
