Amazon Prime for military members and veterans

"Amazon Prime military discount" is searched every year, with the year attached, as if a new one might have appeared. On Amazon's own pages, none has. What has always been true is that a large share of the military community falls inside one of Amazon's two discounted memberships for reasons that have nothing to do with service — age, enrollment, or a benefit Amazon lists by name.

The three routes

Service members aged 18 to 24

The age route asks only for your age. Amazon names three kinds of proof: passport, driving license, identity card. It does not say whether a military ID card is accepted as an "identity card", so we will not tell you it is — a passport or a driver's license is named and will do the job. The discount then runs until your 25th birthday, when Amazon converts the membership to regular Prime automatically. The age route in full.

A note on delivery, because service members move. Prime's shipping benefits are not identical at every address — Amazon's Prime Terms: "Prime shipping benefits depend upon inventory availability, order deadlines, delivery speed selected, and in some cases the shipping address." Student veterans and service members in college

If you are enrolled in higher education, you are on the student route — and it has no upper age limit, which is what makes it the one that matters for most student veterans. How your tuition is paid, through the GI Bill, tuition assistance or anything else, is not part of Amazon's check. Enrollment is. Amazon's own description of who fits: "Higher-education students enrolled in a two- or four-year college can also sign up by sharing their .edu email address."

Online programs are common for service members, and Amazon's published wording does not distinguish online from in-person study. The practical test is whether you can produce proof of enrollment when asked — what counts. The route lasts "after four years, or the end of your studies"; if you are 18-24 and enrolled, pick the route that runs longer.

Veterans receiving a VA pension: Prime Access

This is the one route that names veterans. Veterans & Survivors Pension Benefits is on Amazon's list of 13 Prime Access programs, verified with the VA's decision letter. Prime Access is $6.99 a month — $83.88 over a year — with no age limit and a 30-day free trial for eligible new members.

• The document has a date rule. "Images should be legible. It must show the issue date (must be within the last 12 months) or the expiry date (must be valid), and the beneficiary's name."
• Review can take a week, with full benefits meanwhile. "Certain verifications require up to seven business days to confirm acceptance, and your confirmation will be shared via email. During this period, you'll automatically receive access to all of Prime's benefits until your verification is complete."
• It is renewed yearly. "If you reverify your eligibility every 12 months, you will continue to receive the discount."
• SSDI counts separately. Social Security Disability Insurance is its own entry on the list, verified with the award letter.
• VA disability compensation is not named. The list names the pension, not disability compensation — a distinction worth knowing before you upload the wrong letter.

Military spouses and families

The same three doors, applied person by person. A spouse or dependent enrolled in college qualifies on the student route; one aged 18-24 qualifies on age. Several Prime Access programs are household programs — WIC and the National School Lunch Program among them — and any of the 13 opens Prime Access regardless of service. What the young-adult rate cannot do is cover a family. Amazon: "Prime members can share certain benefits with another adult in their Amazon Household. Prime for Young Adults does not include Household sharing of Prime benefits." Each eligible person holds their own membership. Sharing against your own plan.

What we did not find

• A military or veteran rate on Amazon's price list. The fee help page lists every current Prime price; none is for the military.
• A military plan in the Prime Terms. They name promotional, trial, Prime Student, Prime Access and Prime Shipping memberships — though "including but not limited to", which is why the price list is the stronger evidence.
• A current, dated Amazon announcement of a Veterans Day Prime discount. The pages we found that mention one describe a past promotion, not a current rate. If Amazon runs one, it will announce it on its own site, with a date.
