Which option to pick

The third option, completing the signup form, is the route Amazon lists first and it is the one most people go through without noticing they have. It is worth knowing it exists as a named option, because it means the flow itself can be sufficient.

The acceptance-letter route, and why it matters

Amazon explicitly names "an official acceptance letter for the upcoming term". Read that as written: upcoming. You do not have to have started. You do not need a student ID card, a registration number, or an institutional email address that has not been issued yet.

That opens the discount to a group who usually assume they have to wait — incoming freshmen, transfers between institutions, and anyone starting a program in a future term. The high school and incoming-student case.

What we cannot tell you about the review

• How long documentary review takes. Amazon does not publish a service level for it, so any number we gave you would be invented.
• Which file formats or resolutions are accepted. Not published on the pages we track.
• Whether a redacted document is acceptable. Not published either.

Practical advice rather than a fabricated rule: submit a clean, legible, complete image of a document that shows your name, the institution, and the term. That is what a human reviewer needs to see, and obscuring any of it invites a rejection you then have to appeal. Why we leave gaps rather than fill them.

The age route sidesteps all of this

If you are 18-24, none of the above applies. You verify with a passport, driving license or identity card and never touch enrollment documentation at all. Same price, same benefits — the only difference is when the discount ends.

Work out which end date is better before choosing. Age runs to 25; the student route runs four years or to the end of your studies, whichever comes first. The two routes side by side.

After it clears

Verification is not permanent. Amazon says it will email you several weeks before your renewal date if it believes you are no longer eligible, which means it re-checks. If you are still studying at that point, you re-verify. How re-verification works.
