The Grubhub+ perk, explained

Most of the benefit list on the main benefits page needs a caveat — Prime Video channels and Music Unlimited are discounts on things you still pay for. Grubhub+ is not one of those. It is included, and Amazon says so plainly:

About that $120

We are quoting a number Amazon publishes, and it is worth being precise about what that means. $120 a year is Amazon’s claim about the value of the Grubhub+ tier. It is not a measurement of what you will save, and it is not something we have independently verified — we have no way to.

The honest way to read it: $120 is roughly what the membership would cost you to buy separately, according to the company bundling it. Whether you capture that depends entirely on order volume. If you never use food delivery, the correct value to assign this benefit is zero, and no amount of headline framing changes that.

Set against the membership price, though, the arithmetic is striking even if you discount Amazon’s figure heavily. The whole membership costs $69 a year on the annual plan. If Grubhub+ is worth even a third of what Amazon claims to you, that one benefit covers a large share of the membership on its own — before delivery, video, music or cash back.

What we are not going to tell you

Grubhub+ is Grubhub’s product. Its fee structure, minimum order values, restaurant coverage and terms are set by Grubhub and change independently of anything Amazon publishes. Amazon’s Prime for Young Adults pages do not restate them.

So this page does not tell you what delivery fees you will pay, which restaurants participate, or what the order minimums are. Several sites do state those confidently; they are describing a third party’s terms from memory, and those terms move. Check Grubhub’s own page for the current position.

That is the same rule we apply everywhere on this site: if the figure is not on a source we can point you at, we do not publish it. How we decide what to state as fact.

Whether it should affect your decision

Treat Grubhub+ as a tiebreaker, not a reason. If you were already weighing the membership on delivery and streaming, this is a genuine addition that costs you nothing extra. If food delivery is a meaningful part of how you eat — which, on a campus without a kitchen, it often is — it moves the calculation more than the cash back does.

If you never order in, ignore it entirely and judge the membership on the rest of the list and what it costs. A perk you will not use is not a discount.

One caveat worth carrying over from the trial page: Amazon states that some Prime benefits are withheld during the 6-month trial, and does not publish which ones. What the trial includes covers what Amazon does confirm. If Grubhub+ specifically is your reason for signing up, verify its status on Amazon’s help page before you commit.
